Our journey began in London in 1792. And today, we're present in over 30 countries across the world, employing a diverse group of over 14,000 employees, and supporting thousands of local communities and the environment around us. As a major retailer, our operations can have far-reaching consequences and we are increasingly sensitive to the global issues that impact our world. We want our customers to trust us to act sustainably, ensuring we have minimal impact on the environment, that we source our products fairly and ethically and that we support the communities where we operate.
Our Sustainability Plan
Our sustainability plan shapes the foundations of Our Journey to a Better Business, ensuring close alignment between our business goals and the contribution we can make to a better society and cleaner environment. We have identified those areas where we think we can make a meaningful difference and have established long-term objectives across three themes: Planet, which embraces our activities to reduce our carbon emissions, minimise our packaging and waste and ensure sustainable consumption; People, which incorporates our work to reduce inequality and promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all; and Community, which comprises all our charitable activities and our commitment to making a positive impact wherever we operate.
